The Cannery operates two casinos in the Las Vegas locals market. One is located in North Las Vegas on Craig Rd just west of I-15. The other is on the south end of Boulder Highway just outside of Henderson.
The North Las Vegas Cannery opened on January 3, 2003. It has 201 hotel rooms, the lowest permissible number to operate an unrestricted gaming license. The Eastside Cannery opened on August 28, 2008 and has 307 hotel rooms. It is on the property once home to Nevada Palace. Eastside Cannery is the only casino to open on the eastside of Las Vegas since Green Valley Ranch launched in 2003.
Cannery and Eastside Cannery Tables and Games
There are eight blackjack tables each at Cannery and Eastside Cannery. All blackjack tables hit soft 17. Blackjack always pays 3-2. There is no high limit area at either property.
The double deck blackjack game is available at six tables at each property. Players may double down on any two cards and after splitting. Bet limits are $5 to $1,000. The house edge is 0.4%.
There are two six-deck shoe tables at both Cannery and Eastside Cannery. Players may double down on any two cards and after splitting. Neither Cannery nor Eastside Cannery permits surrender at any blackjack table. The house edge is 0.63%. Bet limits are $3 to $500.
The Can Club for Frequent Blackjack Players
The Cannery Casino properties use The Can Club for its player rewards. It does not give points or player tiers for action at blackjack or any other table. It only gives players comps for slots and video poker play. Slot players receive $1 in free slot play for every $400 wagered, while video poker action gets $1 for every $800 in play.
There is still a reason for getting The Can Club card. Giving the card to the pit boss when sitting at a table will get the play rated. Over time, comps are built that may be used towards meals. These freebies are issued by the pit boss on duty. Players also receive free table game bets based on action.
Green chip action will get a host that will arrange for free hotel rooms. High volume players can even get a limo ride to and from the airport and higher end meals on the house.
What’s Different?
Cannery and Eastside Cannery are quite plain. There really is not anything that interesting about either one of them. You can get the same game most Las Vegas local casinos offer. The stakes are just a bit lower. There is no reason to avoid either Cannery Casino, but there is no reason to rush there, either.
The Inside View
There is nothing wrong with the blackjack games at Cannery and Eastside Cannery. The blackjack games are comparable to other locals joints. Players can double down on any two cards and after splitting at both the double deck and shoe games. The $3 shoe minimum bet and the $5 one for the shoe are great deals. The only place with better rules is Arizona Charlie’s but there are certainly far worse places to play blackjack.
We’re a little annoyed by the lack of transparency in the table game comps system. It seems that blackjack players do not get comped like they do at other locals casinos.
On the other hand, slots and video poker players get decent comps. Slot players get $1 for every $400 in action. Video poker takes $800 to get $1 in free play.
It never hurts to mix up the action a little bit with blackjack. Eastside Cannery has several 100% return video poker machines that are worth playing. The Cannery in North Las Vegas has no playable video poker as it has no competing casino nearby. Craps offers 10 times odds at both locations.
