Westgate is located just east of the Las Vegas Strip. It is just north of the Las Vegas Convention Center and immediately behind the former Riviera Casino and Hotel. Westgate is the only off-Strip casino that has a stop on the Las Vegas Monorail.
Westgate was originally known as The International when it opened on July 2, 1969. It became the Las Vegas Hilton in 1971. Colony Capital, owner of Las Vegas Hilton in its later years, let the property fall into bankruptcy. The debt holders took control of the casino and renamed it LVH, which stood for Las Vegas Hotel. That occurred in 2012. This not-so-creative name remained until 2014 when it was acquired by Westgate.
The Westgate is best known for its sportsbook. It offers the best sports betting lines in Las Vegas. It was remodeled in 2015 with massive, new televisions.
Westgate Tables and Games
There are 12 blackjack tables at Westgate. All hit soft 17.
There is one single deck blackjack game. It allows double down before splitting but not after. Blackjack pays 6-5. Bet limits are $10 to $1,000. The house edge at the single deck blackjack table is 1.6%.
There is one double deck blackjack table. Double down before and after splitting is allowed. Blackjack pays 3-2. Limits are $25 to $2,000. The house edge is 0.4%.
There are four six-deck shoe tables. Double down before and after splitting is allowed. Blackjack pays 3-2. Limits are $10 to $1,000. There are six tables with these same rules that only pay 6-5 on a natural. These are only open during peak hours. Make sure to read the felt before sitting down so that you do not get short paid when you get dealt an ace and a face. The 3-2 tables have a house edge of 0.65%. The 6-5 tables have a house edge of 2.01%.
Westgate Comps for Frequent Blackjack Players
Blackjack players can expect free hotel rooms when giving green chip action. Red chip players will need to give at least four hours a day of action. It never hurts to play some full pay video poker to help show a spread of action. Westgate remodeled the hotel rooms in 2015. They are far superior to what LVH and Las Vegas Hilton guests will remember.
What’s Different?
Westgate offers a typical slate of blackjack games. There is nothing unique about what it spreads. The best game is the $25 double deck.
The Inside View
Westgate’s table game selection has been shrinking over the years. It got rid of its high limit table game area back when it was still called LVH. That put an end to all of the stand on 17 games on the property. Its $25 double deck game is decent, but you can fund the same game for $10 at other casinos located away from the Las Vegas Strip. The $10 minimum bet and rules for its shoe games puts it in line with Las Vegas Strip casinos but it is less competitive with ones in locals casinos because it does not offer surrender.
Westgate is a great place to play video poker or bet on sports, but for blackjack it is only about average with other casinos located just off the Las Vegas Strip. We feel there are far better options for blackjack players.
